Community Is The Answer

Did you see my email last week about my work with Indivisible over the past six years?

When the 2016 election happened, I immediately felt the deep concern that many of us did: I'm a woman. I'm a person of color. I'm queer. These are some of the many identities that we knew would be in danger under that administration.

Rather than let that feeling overwhelm me, I got to work, organizing with my community. As the Director of Operations of the Women's March—Illinois, I helped mobilize 10,000 Illinoisans to go to Washington DC.

When I came home, I got to work on issues that mattered most to me and my community, like protecting our right to individual autonomy. We organized for the passage of HB40 in 2017 and the Reproductive Health Act in 2019, ensuring that abortion would remain legal in Illinois even with the fall of Roe v Wade.

And that's the energy that I will bring to my work as your alderwoman: regardless of what hurdles we face, we can overcome them when we come together as a community.

I am grateful for you reading my story and for your commitment to my campaign, because we are community.

I have been out knocking on doors in the ward and I have heard from you — we love this ward and want what's best for all of us in it. My campaign message of health, housing, and safety as human rights has been resonating, because caring for our whole community leads to safety for everyone.

I cannot knock on every door in the ward (Hey, high-risers! I see you up there!) which means that I need to raise money for mailings. I want to reach even more of our community and let them know about my campaign. Can you chip in today to help defray the cost of mailings in the next few weeks?

Volunteer Opportunities
If you can't make a donation today but you want to help get the word out and connect with our community, we're going to be canvassing every Saturday and Sunday starting Jan 7 (it's here already!) and we'd love to have you with us.

We'll also need volunteers at all 30 polling locations in the ward on Feb 28, reminding people to vote for me. Can you join us for those activities? I'd love to see you!

Yard Signs!
In last week's email, I also mentioned that YES! We now have yard signs! You can pick yours up our headquarters at 5301 N Clark St, 2nd floor in Andersonville or we can deliver one right to you.

Again, one big expense of campaigning is printed materials, and that includes these signs. So please consider making a donation today to help defray the cost of your sign and, if you can pay it forward, cover some of our fellow community members' signs.

Can't afford to pitch in today but you'd still like a sign for your yard? Fill out this form and we'll make sure you get one.
