Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, Queer Businesswoman and Native Chicagoan, Submits 2166 Petition Signatures to Secure a Place on the Ballot

Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth is one of at least seven candidates running for the open seat vacated by Harry Osterman in the 48th ward.

CHICAGO, IL — Early this morning, Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, candidate for 48th ward, submitted 2166 petition signatures – over four times as many as the 473 minimum required – in order to get on the ballot for the municipal elections in February 2023.

Manaa-Hoppenworth, daughter of Filipino immigrants, said, “I’m very proud of our people-powered campaign and the volunteers who collected signatures from across the 35 precincts in the 48th ward. I look forward to connecting with my neighbors to continue working together to ensure that our ward is safe and welcoming to everyone, no matter the color of their skin or how much money they have in their pocket.”

Manaa-Hoppenworth will listen to the needs of the community and foster a thriving local economy that will protect and expand the unique identity of the 48th ward.
