Bodily Autonomy is a Human Right

Six years ago today, I helped mobilize 10k Illinoisans to go to the Women’s March in Washington DC in protest of the inauguration.

The second photo is a picture of me in high school, around the time that I got an abortion. Because I had access to safe medical care, I was able to make a choice about MY body and it changed my life. Since then, I have been fighting to make sure that the basic human right to safe abortions is never taken away.

Chicagoans pride ourselves on our sanctuary city — just this week, the Bodily Autonomy Ordinance passed and as alderwoman, I will continue to fight to protect our human rights. I helped push for the passage of HB40 in 2017 and the Reproductive Health Act in 2019 to ensure that abortions would remain legal in Illinois even with the fall of Roe v Wade. I will never back down from that fight.
