Small Business Owner and Community Leader Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth Announces Candidacy for 48th Ward Alderwoman

CHICAGO, IL — Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, a native Chicagoan and 23 year resident of Andersonville, mother of three, tango dancer, small business owner, and community organizer, announces her candidacy for 48th ward alderwoman.

“With my years of experience creating and leading one of the strongest grassroots groups on the Northside, I’ve built coalitions that have prioritized civic engagement and participation in our political process,” said Manaa-Hoppenworth. “As a small business owner in Andersonville and a proven progressive leader in the neighborhood, I know there are opportunities to continue strengthening the communities of the 48th Ward. I'm running for Alderwoman to take on these challenges.”

“The 48th Ward needs an alderperson who is a bridge-builder, who can coalesce our diverse constituencies and represent our common interests. As a community organizer, I’ve done just that: I have worked alongside community and government partners to build strong coalitions to advocate for civil rights and meaningful engagement of everyday people in our democracy.”

“For the next few weeks, I'm focused on reaching out to neighbors and colleagues to understand their top concerns as we work toward a future that centers community voices—not developers, corporations, or a lackadaisical status quo that does not deliver," Manaa-Hoppenworth said. "We will hold a formal kickoff on August 30. I am excited to earn the trust of my neighbors in the 48th Ward in the coming months.”
